Case Study 1
About the project:
We were hired by Tellabs to Upgrade Verizon's spare Home Nids FTTH to a new software level.We're talking about 2500 units to be completed in 1 week.
Challenges:
The problem was that these uncommon upgrades had never been done before on a mass quantity of uninstalled product. We were charged with building a facility that would allow for a large amount of product to be accessible for software to be pushed from a main control unit.
What we did:
We converted the existing lab into a macro house environment to simulate 96 homes by placing plywood on the internal walls and hanging units on the walls and connecting with short fibers to multiple control units.
Results:
Our customer was overwhelmed by our completing all 2500 units in the one week allotted time, using multiple work shifts and staff. They were extremely happy to provide an upgraded product back to its customer ahead of schedule.
Case Study 2
About the project:
Calix/TSTT retained us to place NGDLC in offices to provide high speed DSL and future video services. This project included 108 exchange builds.
Challenges:
It was an uncommon problem working internationally with an end customer who had not done mass deployment of product in over 30 years. They had a young staff who was unfamiliar with installations as well as the product line itself.
What we did:
We worked longer hours ensuring the communication path was very wide to guarantee all parties understood their roles and responsibilities and to ensure a timely delivery of product and services.
Results:
All sites were completed and the customer was very happy. We were awarded multiple site projects and a large project for other end users by manufacturer due to the very successful completion.
Case Study 3
About this project:
Icon ws hired by Calix/Bahamas Telephone Company to provide services in 78 exchange builds with superstructure outside the country. We were tasked with shipping the superstructure and all miscellaneous equipment required for office installation.
Challenges:
The difficulty was that the customer wanted all material delivered on a per site basis due to delivery on small islands and shipping bulk was not an option. Also, previous shipments had arrived damaged with the boxes on pallets partly opened or missing entirely.
What we did:
We designed and built large "Coffin" type shipping containers out of wood for each site. We had all the material delivered to headquarters, then printed a pick list for each coffin, fulfilled each pick list, packed each coffin per site, stenciled each coffin, and then shipped each out.
Results:
"Coffins" arrived in one piece with no material missing and on the correct islands. Installation went quickly due to no missing parts.
